My Teaching Philosophy:
"Each and every student is like a flower, and we have the privilege of watching them blossom before our eyes." (c) Crystal Mallory 2008.
"It is my true belief that the student and teacher work together as a team and learn and grow together. It is important for the teacher and students to meet each other halfway. I do not believe in the philosophy of "Practice Makes Perfect" as this really is not true, nothing is perfect and that is not what music is about. As a friend of mine has stated many times it is more like "Practice makes magic" and my addition to this is "Practice creates magic and music that paints a picture for your audiences". So even when playing one quarter note, or an offbeat or even a whole note you are part of that painting. Each and every detail is important!"
I believe in creating a truly enjoyable, positive and open ended learning experience (open ended as in the sky is the limit if your mind is open to it). I believe you are never too old or too young to learn music. In fact, children from infancy to the age of 6 are sponges. This is the best time for them to learn different languages and music is one of those many languages. There have also been studies done to prove that learning music when you are older can also help stave off and slow down symptoms of brain diseases such as Alzheimer's.
We all encounter bumps and hurdles along the way, but rather than letting it knock us down it is better to learn from it and move forward. We can not change the past, all we can do is learn from it and move to the future. I believe that every student has potential, no matter what the skill level, I truly believe in all my students. Positive thinking is a huge part of my teaching philosophy."
